Infineon Dresden

Infineon Technologies Dresden GmbH (IFD) is one of the largest production sites of Infineon Technologies AG. The Dresden factory produces premium non-commodity logic ICs with complex manufacturing technology on 200mm silicon wafers. Approximately 2.000 people from around 20 nations work at IFD, thereof 25% graduates of technical or science studies from a university or technical college. The Infineon factory in Dresden covers a wide range of technologies and products with structures from 90nm to 250 nm. 30 different technologies and derivatives as well as more than 200 different products with the possibility to choose between copper and aluminum metallization layers: CMOS, eFlash, RFCMOS, SmartPower, CMOS optics. Beyond this , Infineon decided to establish Dresden as a volume production site for power semiconductors on 300mm wafers in 2011 – the first one worldwide. This opens a new future-proof chapter in the history of the site.

Role in the NexGen Project

Infineon Technologies AG and Infineon Technologies Dresden GmbH perform the research on the semiconductor technology for the GHz microwaves, development of libraries, circuits and technology options. Focus is on low power consuming circuits, broad bandwidth capability with high resolution.

IFD will take care of the definition and specification of sensor specific technology extensions and improvements of its mm-wave SiGe BiCMOS technology platform which is currently developed for automotive radar sensors in the 80 GHz range. This technology will be utilized to manufacture the sensors for the “implanted glucose sensor” and “multi-parameter skin patch sensor” for low power and ultra-wide band sensing applications.
